AI in the Arts: Enhancing, Not Replacing, the Creative Soul
As visual effects (VFX) converge with artificial intelligence (AI), the industry is experiencing an exciting evolution. AI is increasingly embedded across pipelines—from ideation to final composite—making workflows faster, smarter, and more compelling.
1. What’s New in AI-Powered VFX
Runway ML continues to be a front-runner among AI VFX tools. Its toolkit—featuring background removal, rotoscoping, stylization, and text-to-video generation—is now offering real-time collaboration and motion templates tailored for 2025 workflows.
Runway AI Review: Transforming Art with Generative Tools – The Tech Crib
Boris FX, through its Continuum and Mocha Pro suites, has added cutting-edge AI features: machine‑learning–based motion blur, 3D-camera solves, automatic license‑plate detection, and streamlined transitions.
Deforum brings AI frame interpolation—creating silky slow-motion by generating new in-between frames with seamless motion.
According to VFXVoice, 2025 will deliver AI-assisted tools spanning concept design, asset generation, motion stabilization, style transfer, denoising, and lighting accuracy across pipelines. Moreover, AI will accelerate production and post-production schedules, transforming the entire filmmaking process. With AI handling time-consuming tasks, teams can focus more on the creative elements, leading to faster, more dynamic productions. To stay ahead, professionals should embrace AI, continuously learning and adapting to rapid advancements, ensuring they are prepared to harness these tools to their fullest potential. AI-powered filmmaking tools are like jet fuel for creativity.
2. Emerging AI Blockbusters
Marey by Moonvalley is redefining ethical AI in VFX. It’s a creator-friendly, license-safe video generation model(trained on independent and licensed footage), offering granular control and affordability (approx. $1–$2 per scene).
Veo 3, unveiled at Google I/O 2025, delivers ultra-realistic AI video creation from text/image prompts—boasting high-quality motion, lip-sync, ambient audio, and narrative coherence (via Gemini/AI Ultra plan).
Veo - Google DeepMind
Industry news highlights that studios like Disney, Netflix, and others are quietly adopting Runway AI to add VFX(e.g., Netflix’s The Eternaut), citing up to 10× faster workflows. t's no secret that Netflix is using AI, for instance. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos openly confessed as much – during the company's earnings call last week – when he revealed AI was used to generate a VFX (visual effects) sequence in an original production for the first time in dystopian drama The Eternaut. At the time, it wasn't disclosed which AI software was used, but a source has reportedly confirmed to Bloomberg that it was indeed Runway AI's tech.
Filmmakers are now producing complete short films via AI (no sets, actors, or traditional crews)—like Samir Mallal’s Midnight Drop—enabled by tools such as Google’s Veo3.
Tools We Use at VFXaddART
At our studio, we continuously test and adopt the most advanced AI solutions available:
Runway Aleph – A generative AI model from Runway, optimized for cinematic quality. We use it for quick previz, background generation, and visual exploration, reducing early production bottlenecks.
Google Veo 3 – The latest breakthrough in text-to-video AI, capable of generating ultra-realistic motion, lip-sync, and scene continuity. We integrate Veo 3 into concept videos, experimental storytelling, and client mockups to accelerate ideation.
Higgsfield AI – Specializing in human animation and digital doubles. We employ it for realistic character performances, reducing motion-capture costs while keeping actors’ movements authentic.
Runway Gen-2 – Already an industry favorite, it supports style transfer, keying, rotoscoping, and text-driven animation, making it ideal for commercials and viral CGI.
Flux Ultra & Raw – For high-resolution concept art and matte painting, Flux provides granular control over visual styles, ensuring seamless integration into 3D environments.
Wonder Studio (Wonder Dynamics) – Automatically maps actor performances to CG characters. Our team leverages this in hybrid productions where live-action merges with animated heroes.
Marey (Moonvalley) – One of the first ethically trained AI video tools, Marey ensures licensing-safe contentwhile giving us fast iteration for branded projects.
By combining these with Unreal Engine 5, Houdini, Blender, and DaVinci Resolve, we merge the best of AI innovation and traditional VFX mastery.
Looking Ahead
We believe AI should augment, not replace, human creativity. By integrating tools like Runway Aleph, Veo 3, Higgsfield, and Marey into our workflow, we ensure clients get the best of both worlds: the speed of AI and the precision of professional VFX.
At VFXaddART, we’re not waiting for the future of filmmaking—we’re building it.
